extensions

HSP provides a method of doing things without using HSP called extensions.  Extensions are generally written in a language that has support for the native system architecture (e.g. compiled to a native DLL or SO, such as C, C++, Pascal, Delphi, etc.).  HSPlet's extensions are written in Java.
